What
changed.

Counting heads is the easy part. This page also says how each number was counted, what we cannot prove, and one thing that did not work.

Young people, 2025
1,140

Each counted once, however many programs they joined.

Young people

Every session starts with a sign-in sheet. A young person who came to three programs is counted once, matched by name and year of birth.

What students told us

318 of the 1,140 young people answered the end-of-term survey, a 28% response. These are the views of the students who answered, not of everyone.

84%made something they were proud of
71%tried a material or tool they had never used before
58%met someone they would not have met at school

What we
cannot prove

Arts programs are often credited with better grades, school attendance and college places. We do not collect any of that, so we make none of those claims. If a funder needs one, we will say so plainly rather than borrow someone else’s study.

What did
not work

Second Story Press printed 1,500 copies of each issue and gave away just over 900. The rest went to recycling. From 2026 it prints 1,000, and the paper saved goes to the darkroom.

Goals for 2026

Goal 01

70% come back

A text to every family two weeks before term, instead of a flyer handed out on the last day.

Goal 02

40% answer the survey

Paper surveys handed out at the last session. Last year’s went out by email afterwards.

Goal 03

A second bus stop

A pick-up south of the river on program days, where a third of last year’s waiting list lives.
